Railroad Earth's (RRE) new album, Amen Corner (released on June 10), brings music appreciation to the next level with its RRE-Mix interactive feature. The band's latest self-produced album goes a step beyond the traditional "purchase and listen," and will now allow fans to digitally remix three of the album's tracks through their personal computer, with the help of some simple editing software.

WOMEX Reveals First Round of DISMARC CD Project

WOMEX has completed the first round of a virtual CD project for the Eropean Union-funded project DISMARC (Discovering Music Archives) and the first two virtual CDs are ready to be presented on virtualWOMEX:

Tero Halvorsen: "Greatest Finnish Singers Of The 1950s" In cooperation with YLE (Yleisradio Oy - Finnish national broadcaster)

Ardian Ahmedaja: "Discovering Albania" In cooperation with EMEM (Berlin Phonogram Archive/Museum of Ethnology, Berlin)

DISMARC is the central database and audio aggregation portal for all non-mainstream music, whether owned by broadcasters, museums, institutions or private collectors.

The world Music Expo, WOMEX, has announcerd the first set of showcases for the 2008 conference. "I think we have reached very balanced high-profile results. I am totally convinced that it is a great selection for all WOMEX visitors", says one of the members of the panel of judges, Tobias Maier.
For the first time WOMEX used an online tool for the showcase proposal submissions - www.sonicbids.com - which gave the WOMEX Jury enough time to go through all artists' proposals and do a personal list of favorites before the actual jury meeting. I’m always elated to hear a group of musicians rediscovering a lost or faded musical tradition, and I’m also a little puzzled because the music produced is usually so entrancing or just downright enthralling that I just can’t imagine why the tradition ever fell out of fashion.
